Cat lovers like to make their affection for their feline companions pretty obvious, and Hiroko Kubota is here to help them out. This Japanese embroidery artist became a true sensation thanks to her collared shirts decorated with cats peaking from pockets and other unexpected places.

Kubota’s son was her main source of inspiration when she started stitching together the shirts, which brought her viral fame. She struggled to find store-bought clothes that fit his small frame, so she decided to start making her own and came up with a way to make them extra fun.

The idea for shirts with peekaboo cat details actually came from Kubota’s son, who asked her to embroider a cat peeking from his breast pocket on one of the shirts. She enjoyed the process so much that she kept doing it, stitching together similar shirts for her customers and attracting over 20,000 followers to her Instagram page.

Kubota is no stranger to stitching together cat portraits on embroidery hoops, but her talent is on its full display when she’s working on her signature shirts. They allowed her to celebrate the incredible diversity of our feline companions, showcasing their unique personalities and letting their owners keep them close to their hearts.

Acclaimed Japanese artist Takashi Murakami recently unveiled a new footwear brand called Ohana Hatake that draws inspiration from his iconic flower motifs.

Murakami is known in the art world for his playful and vibrant style, as well as his ability to bridge the gap between “high art” and “low art.” His works are influenced by Japanese traditional art and pop culture, with smiling flower motifs being a recurring theme in his pieces.

Now, Murakami has employed his creativity to create two models of slides. The first one is Ohana Full-Bloom, which already received limited releases in previous years and features a smiling flower on the strap.  It comes in four colorways: raspberry rose, apricot, island green, and blazing yellow.

The second is the Surippa Ohana model, which has a more traditional look and flower motif engraving on the side.

The first two Ohana Hatake models are currently sold exclusively through the brand’s website in the form of raffles. However, more releases are expected to be available in the coming weeks, while new models are set to arrive in 2025.

“I am pursuing an expression that explores the very relationship between American and Japanese cultures. I would love it if those who wear these sandals could sense how this team managed to craft something wonderful out of my quirky, off-the-mark ideas,” said Murakami of Ohana Hatake.

Paula Votteler is designing some of the most magical handbags that you’ll ever come across, and her inspiration comes from a pretty unusual place. Most of her creations are made with plastic waste and other discarded materials, but that’s not stopping them from looking straight out of this world.

Votteler is a young fashion designer from Germany, who has been making clothes since her youth. Her mom taught her how to crochet when she was just five, and she later attended sewing courses and learned embroidery on her own.

Votteler is currently working toward her degree in fashion design, but this wasn’t always her career of choice. Before deciding to pursue her true passion, she got a degree in packaging technology and gained a lot of knowledge about sustainability and recycling during that time.

She eventually decided to mix these two passions into one and started making bags from existing resources, hopeful they’d make the world a better place.

“I’m most inspired by materials that somehow come into my life. Fabric, beads, but also packaging, or anything I find on the beach. I love giving existing, perhaps unloved things, a new life… I want to make a statement that fast fashion should not be supported and that we treat our planet like dirt,” she told The Berliner.

Whether it’s Van Gogh’s Starry Night to Monet’s Water Lilies, we all have our favorite work of art, but what if we told you there’s a way to always carry them with you? Hanna Hupalo made it possible to make famous paintings an essential part of your personal style by making beautiful earnings that mimic world-class masterpieces.

Hupalo is the mastermind behind the jewelry brand Namystynky, which she founded with her sister Oksana. They have both studied art design at the Lviv Academy of Arts in Ukraine, and their love for beaded jewelry inspired them to start their own brand.

“Initially, creating jewelry was our long-standing hobby, but after our art school training, we decided to launch a small business… My jewelry design focuses on decorative ornaments of Eastern Europe and other regions. I have also developed unique designs,” she explains on her Etsy page.

The most amazing thing about Namystynky’s beaded earrings is that they often celebrate the amazing works of art that we all know and love. Hupalo uses colorful beads to recreate some of the most recognizable masterpieces in the world, and we’ve seen her create jewelry inspired by Edvard Munch’s The Scream, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Edgar Degas’ Dancers, and many more famous works of art.

Reshetnak hails from Siberia, but she’s making her jewelry in the English countryside, where she spent most of her life. She describes herself as a botanist and lover of flora, whose amazing creations are inspired by her breathtaking surroundings and the people she loves.

“Each of my jewelry pieces tells a story of plant mythology and folklore and is intricately handmade in the hopes of bringing you closer to nature. My passion for history and botany help infuse each item with ancient meaning, magic, and mystery,” she writes on her official website.

She started making jewelry while looking for a creative outlet that would shake up her work-from-home routine. If you’re a huge fan of theme parks, you’re fully aware that no visit is complete without an elaborate outfit. No one knows this better than Kelsey of Rope Drop Design, who became a viral social media sensation after she started making Disney-themed clothes from old bedsheets.

Kelsey loved visiting theme parks for as long as she can remember, and she found a way to make each visit to Disney World extra special. She started crafting ears that perfectly fit her clothes, and she decided to start making her outfits even more elaborate after she created a pair with old bedsheets.

She used the leftover fabrics to put together a matching dress, and the upcycling process brought her so much joy that she simply couldn’t stop. Her fellow Disney fans were obsessed with her dress, and many of them wanted one just like it, so she decided to start making more.

She started searching for second-hand bedsheets with her favorite characters at local thrift stores and decided to master her sewing skills. This eventually led to the launch of her fashion brand Rope Drop Design, which sells unique, made-to-order dresses, skirts, shirts, and jackets inspired by the Disney classics we all know and love.

Shoes made out of tennis balls, shorts made out of bags of Haribo gummies, and basketball turned into a glove. These are all fashion ideas that Nicole McLaughlin turned into a reality.

McLaughlin, who works as a graphic designer at sportswear maker Rebook, uses her free time to push the boundaries of fashion. Her fashion creations are crafted using material that isn’t usually used for clothes and shoes and generally have a futuristic-like look.

According to McLaughlin, this is a passion project and a way to express his creativity. However, it also helps her generate ideas for her day job.

“I truly love the idea of personal projects, and I encourage everyone to do them, even if you’re not a designer,” she shares. “It’s self-gratification, and nobody can tell you you’re wrong because it’s yours!”

McLaughlin’s fashion items can sometimes look a bit over-the-top or downright bizarre. However, this is purposely so as it allows the designer to challenge the fashion norms. Her message to observers is to look at her creations with an open mind and not to take them “too seriously.”

The talented Boston-based designer usually shares her quirky fashion on Instagram, where she has more than 800K followers. Continue scrolling to see more of them below.

Wicker bags experienced somewhat of a comeback in recent years, and one fashion brand from the Philippines decided to use this to its advantage. Wicker Darling is producing some of the most offbeat bags you’ll ever see, mostly inspired by the animal world.

Wicker Darling was founded by Jasmine Norrie, a designer based in Melbourne, Victoria, who was longing for a figural wicker handbag she couldn’t find anywhere. She runs this brand from her hometown, but Wicker Darling’s bags are actually made by two small, family-owned companies in the Philippines.

Sustainably and fair pay come first for this slow-fashion brand, and their bags are hand-made with sustainably harvested rattan, by a group of local women using traditional techniques.

“Many of our weavers are mothers or older women who are now able to supplement their family income while working from home… We are able to provide stable, ongoing work year-round, ensuring that weavers are employed continuously even through the low season,” reads Wicker Darling’s official website.

Wicker Darling’s bags take the shape of many different animals, ranging from elephants and giraffes to cats and dogs. They’re open to experimenting with many different designs, but pink flamingos are definitely their biggest hit, and they helped put this brand on the map.

Our favorite celebrities have a way of impressing us with their red carpet choices, and Martha Oborska Rybalo decided to channel this fascination into something amazing. She made a name for herself with her amazing fashion illustrations inspired by the most iconic celebrity looks.

Rybalo is a talented fashion illustrator from Ukraine, who enjoyed drawing since childhood, but only decided to seriously pursue this passion in the age of social media. Instagram made her realize she could develop her skills and turn her hobby into a viable side hustle, and she eventually attracted over 40,000 followers to her page.

Rybalo decided to mix her love for art with her obsession with the entertainment industry, and this turned out to be the winning formula behind her success. Her Instagram page blew up once she started working on illustrations inspired by red carpet fashion from major festivals, award shows, concerts, film premiers, and beyond.

She used her illustrations to honor some of her favorite celebrities, from Zendaya and Rihanna to Kylie Jenner and Selena Gomez, but celebrity-themed illustrations are not her only talent. Rybalo is fascinated by fashion in general, and many of her illustrations see her coming up with her own designs that would fit right in on the red carpet.
