It’s impossible to resist the call of the ocean when you live on the East Coast, and no one knows this better than Logan Rash. He’s a fossil collector behind East Coast Fossils, who specializes in hunting for shark teeth and using his platform to advocate for shark and ocean conservation.

Rash grew up in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and his love for nature knows no bounds. He spent his childhood years fascinated by the ocean and answered the call of the sea when he was just 19 years old. This was when he started collecting prehistoric shark teeth along the East Coast, unaware that this teenage hobby would shape the rest of his life.

Rash’s collection kept growing as the years went by, and he’s now sharing his findings with 80,000 followers on his Instagram page East Coast Fossils. He’s no longer based in the Outer Banks, but that’s not stopping him from collecting fossils since his home state of Virginia also offers a long Atlantic coastline.

In addition to being a fossil collector, Rash is also an advocate for shark and ocean conservation. He co-wrote two books inspired by his years of expertise collecting shark teeth, including a beachcombing guide for fossil collectors titled My Shark Tooth Guide and a children’s book Why We Need Sharks, which explores the awe-inspiring world of sharks and sheds light on their vital role in the ecosystem.

Many artists turn to nature when looking for inspiration, but no one is doing it like Robert Steven Connett. He made a name for himself with his incredibly intricate drawings, that will take you to a world of magic and wonder that’s filled with the most vibrant life forms you’ll ever come across.

Connett’s life story proves that it’s never too late to become an artist since he worked in many different industries before becoming a full-time artist in his 50s. After losing his home in a fire, he decided to leave his career in insurance behind and worked several failed jobs before finding his true calling as an artist.

He started drawing because he loves seeing his imagination come to life and the process of creating art brings him peace that he can’t attain any other way.

“[My art is] still how I illustrate my feelings about the world, but it’s modified by my wish to create order and beauty. I use my work as a vehicle to take me to another world, one of my own creation. I’m honored to share that world and thrilled that others can relate to it in their own way,” he explains on his official website.

Connett’s drawings will transport you to a whimsical world that takes inspiration from our own while also looking completely unique and magical. Most of them are inspired by the endless beauty of the natural world and show insects, reptiles, birds, and other animals in a way we’ve never seen them before.

Glass art is a truly fascinating art form that rarely gets as much attention as it should, but Nikita Drachuk will help you look at it with new eyes. This talented glass artist from Ukraine is crafting some of the most fascinating glass miniatures you’ll ever see, often inspired by his fascination with flora and fauna.

Drachuk has been working with glass for over 20 years, and he now specializes in “lampwork” – the practice of making glass figurines melted in the flame of a gas burner glass. Also known as flameworking or torchworking, this practice has been around since the 14th century, and it led to the creation of some of the most intricate glasswork ever made.

Drachuk is proud to continue this centuries-old tradition through his brand Glass Symphony. His glass art is mostly inspired by the endless beauty of the natural world, and we’ve seen his tiny sculptures take the shape of everything from spiders and snails to his signature octopuses.

“Here you can find representatives of flora and fauna made of glass: figurines of wild and domestic animals, birds, fish, exotic plants, and other small compositions. Despite the small size the figurines accurately reflect the physiological characteristics of the animals, their character, and even emotions,” reads Drachuk’s Etsy page.

Plants have the power to turn your home into a peaceful oasis, and Devan Carter is a case in point. The Brick House Jungle founder became a true Instagram sensation after she decided to welcome us inside her boho home and share her houseplant tips and tricks with the world.

Carter, who works as a speech and language pathologist and runs a rental property business with her husband, is followed by almost 200,000 people, and her plants are one of the reasons why. Plants come in all the colors of the rainbow, but Chloe Hurst doesn’t seem to be too interested in the lively and bright ones. She’s the mastermind behind the popular Instagram account “Goth Garden”, whose love for dark plants helped thousands of people discover their under-appreciated beauty.

Hurst is a Canadian brand designer and graphic designer, who used her skills to transform her Instagram page @theg0thgarden into a huge sensation, with almost 300,000 followers. She enjoyed wearing dark colors from a young age, and she wanted her home garden to reflect the goth aesthetic that she loved so much.

Even though she enjoyed playing in the dirt from a young age, Hurst traces her obsession with dark plants to black petunias she noticed at her friend’s place. She was so fascinated by them that she wanted to make her entire garden black, so she started doing her research and looking for more plants with a similar aesthetic.

Hurst’s “goth garden” truly started blooming after she moved to her own house in Carleton Place, Ontario, and she now owes 50 plants in different shades of black. They add to the mystifying allure of her home, and taking care of them is the best part of her day because it’s a grounding experience that allows her to completely detach from the digital world and simply relax.

Buying plants and actually keeping them alive are two different hobbies, and no one knows this better than Samantha Hermann. She’s been trying to take the best possible care of her houseplants for years, and she’s sharing all the knowledge she gathered under the moniker House + Plant.

Hermann is a social media creator from Omaha, Nebraska, and she owes her 670,000 Instagram followers to her amazing plant care tips and tricks. She took care of over 200 houseplants over the course of the past decade and learned everything she knows today through extensive trial and error.

Hermann’s love for plants was sparked by her mother who gifted her a little golden pothos when she went off to college, which changed many different homes and environments over the years, growing and thriving by her side.

“I love plants and nature. The women in my family have always tended gardens and their own houseplants. I’ve learned a lot from them over the years. I’m excited to use this creative outlet to help others on their own plant journey,” she wrote on her official website.

Hermann knows how frustrating plant parenthood can be, and she wants to help other people handle it with ease. In addition to regularly sharing her tips and tricks on Instagram, she also offers consultation and sells useful supplies that helped her take better care of her plants in the past.

There is something both calming and disturbing about oceans. Watching their breaking waves is peaceful, but also reminds you that the power of the sea is far greater than we can imagine.

Intrigued by the beauty and power of oceans, Canadian artist Katharine Burns creates captivating paintings of seascapes. With an impressive attention to detail, Burns reproduces all sorts of different scenes on canvas. This ranges from calming seas painted in bright colors by a setting sun to waves crashing on the beach.

According to Burns, the main focus of her paintings is always water, and she always aims to avoid adding other motifs that might distract the viewers.

“What I try to capture is intimacy, and the qualities of the whole ocean environment that captivate us, sometimes unconsciously; or inspire awe in ways we can barely put into words,” Burns explains on her website. “The sparkles created from sunlight on the water’s surface; the amazing force behind a wave; the little windows of translucency that flash within it for a split second just before it crashes to the shore.”

Burns’ seascape paintings are currently exhibited at the James Baird Gallery in Pouch Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Abbozzo Gallery in Toronto, Ontario. You can also check them out on the artist’s social media channels or by scrolling below.

Terrariums are one of the most amazing ways to put your tiny plants on full display, and no one knows this better than Bria Singer. After getting her fine arts degree, she found an unexpected creative outlet in the world of terrariums, and this new hobby reignited her passion for art all over again.

Singer is an artist from Columbus, Ohio, who graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2019. She mostly focused on painting, drawing, and jewelry-making while working towards her degree in fine arts, but started looking for a different way to express herself creatively following graduation.

“Shortly after graduating, I became OBSESSED with houseplants… Creating terrariums healed the turbulent relationship I had developed with drawing and painting, and gave me an artistic outlet that felt easy and carefree. I’m so grateful to have fallen into such a fun hobby and art form,” she wrote on Instagram.

Terrariums opened up a whole new world of possibilities for Singer and allowed her to explore her love for miniatures in a brand-new way. She’s sharing her creations on her Instagram page @velvet.forest.terrariums, and her tiny ecosystems are contained in everything from butter dish trays and cookie jars to teapots and wine glasses.

Mushrooms have been fascinating artists for centuries, and Moritz Schmid came up with a creative way to put them in the spotlight. This German artist is crafting elaborate displays that will change the way you look at mushrooms and inspire you to learn more about them.

Moritz grew up surrounded by nature and developed a fondness for mushrooms during his childhood years. They became more than a hobby for this artist, who gained advanced knowledge about the world of fungi by becoming a mushroom coach at the German Society for Mycology and a certified course instructor at the German Academy for Forest Bathing and Health.

He enjoys immersing himself in the fascinating world of mushrooms and getting inspired by the magic of the forest almost every day. They’re the driving force behind his fascinating works of art, made with a wide variety of mushrooms of different species, arranged in perfect harmony to create something breathtaking.

In addition to sharing his art with 50,000 Instagram followers, Schmid also hosts workshops and retreats in his local area near Berlin. He hopes his body of work will infect people with his “enthusiasm for mushrooms and create a space where you can experience nature in a whole new way.”
