Winnie-the-Pooh is one of the most famous characters in children’s literature. Created by author A. A. Milne and illustrator E. H. Shepard, the honey-loving bear has been featured in numerous books, animated movies, and other publications.

Recently, a rare collection centering on Winnie-the-Pooh made its way to auction organized by Fieldings Auctioneers and ended up selling for £95,000 (around $118,000). The collection consisted of original drawings and illustrations, including sketches for 1930’s The Christopher Robin Birthday Book, as well as Milne’s ideas and early drafts of Winnie-the-Pooh stories.

Additionally, the collection featured the author’s correspondence with publishers and Shepard, many of which mention Winnie-the-Pooh.

This rare Winnie-the-Pooh collection belonged to publisher Leslie Smith, who kept it stored in his attic. After Smith’s death, his son was sorting out his stuff and discovered it.

“This is an incredible discovery in the world of Winnie the Pooh, especially when it was thought all documents were accounted for. It has been an absolute pleasure to read through these rare, unique, and personal letters and documents which give further insight into our favorite honey-loving bear,” book specialist Clive Farahar, who appraised the collection, said in a statement.

During the auction, the collection was split into 34 lots, with starting prices ranging from £100 ($125) to £1,500 ($1,870). The majority of the lots were picked up by British collectors while the rest were bought by collectors from the United States.
